We're excited to announce that Jimmy Whelan has joined The Running Algorithm as an athlete representative.
A former professional cyclist, Jimmy transitioned to running via triathlon in 2025 and has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting new athletes in the sport. In a remarkably short period, he's recorded personal bests of 13:47 for 5km, 28:26 for 10km, and 1:01:37 for the half marathon. Alongside his performances, Jimmy has become well known for his effortless running style, earning a growing following online.

This partnership is about much more than results and posts on social media.
One of Jimmy's primary interests is exploring how cycling can be integrated into elite running training in a more intelligent, measurable way. As a former WorldTour professional, he understands the enormous aerobic benefits that cycling can provide at training volumes that simply aren't possible through running alone.
The challenge, however, is understanding the true cost of that training.
Working alongside Jimmy, we'll be developing new ways to interpret the output of The Running Algorithm's groundbreaking models to better quantify the interaction between cycling and running. Our goal is to help determine when additional cycling creates positive aerobic adaptations, when it begins to compromise key running sessions, and ultimately how athletes can maximise performance while minimising unnecessary fatigue.
Jimmy has also turned his attention to the marathon and will be using the engine behind The Running Algorithm throughout his first marathon build. While his day-to-day training remains under the guidance of Andrew Henderson, one of the world's leading distance running coaches, our technology will provide an additional layer of decision support helping Jimmy and his coaching team better understand training load, recovery, and the mechanisms behind successful adaptations over the course of the build.

For Jimmy, this partnership wasn't simply about representing a brand. Despite having no shortage of opportunities, he chose to work with us because he believes in the technology we're building and wanted to contribute directly to its development.
The analogy we often use is Formula One. Elite athletes provide the most demanding possible testing environment, allowing technology to be developed at the highest level before those innovations are refined into products that benefit every runner.
To have an athlete of Jimmy's calibre helping shape the future of our platform is something we're incredibly proud of.
When we started this company in 2024, we never imagined we'd have the opportunity to work alongside world-class athletes to push the boundaries of endurance training. Yet here we are.
Over the coming months, we'll be sharing insights from Jimmy's training, showcasing how we're using real-world data to advance our fatigue modelling, and telling the story of how elite performance can drive innovation for every runner.
